The Unparalleled String Shop prides itself on being a full service bespoke and intimate instrument repair experience. All appointments are handled personally by the owner and Master Luthier, Jon Wondergem. You never have to wonder who is handling your instrument. Jon consults with each musician directly and tailors each job to the musician’s unique needs. Jon is an experienced player himself and understands how important perfection and care is in this craft. Jon has a personal relationship to music and takes pride in his ability to work with players one-on-one, handling each job start to finish.

    • General Set up (Adjust Truss Rod, check and adjust the action, checking frets for proper truing, general clean and polish, tightening of tuning pegs, new strings if necessary) $80

    • Bridge Removal, reset and reglue $150

    • Bone Nut Replacement $100

    • Bone Saddle Replacement $100

    • Fret Dress (Frets leveled, crowned, sanded and polished. Also includes fret board cleaning.) $120

    • Crack/Damage repair is done by quote and measured on an hourly rate of $80/hr.

    • Reglue of loose braces or internal repair is done by quote and measured on an hourly rate of $80/hr.

    • Headstock Crack Repair $120 and up

    • Tuner Replacement $50 and up

    • Total Refret $380 and up depending on the fingerboard (setup Included)

    • Electronic Soldering of Pickups, Volume and Tone Pots, Switches, and Jacks is done by quote and measured on an hourly rate of $80/hr

    • Instrument Restring, sound post adjustment and peg check/lubrication $60

    • New Bridge Carve $80+ depending on the instrument

    • Nut Replacement $80+ depending on the instrument

    • Saddle Replacement $80+ depending on the instrument

    • Planing and truing the fingerboard $80+ depending on the instrument

    • Crack/Damage repair is done by quote at a rate of $40+

    • Reglue of loose seams or internal repair is done by quote at a rate $40+

    • Reglue peghead or scroll $80+ depending on the instrument

    • Tuning Peg Replacement $80+ depending on the instrument

    • Bow Rehair (Violin - $70 / Viola - $75 / Cello - $85 / Bass $120+)

    • Major repairs such as grafting, patching or inlaying. Or repairs that require taking the top or neck of the instrument off are done by individual quote after a consultation.

Jon Wondergem

Master Luthier, Jon Wondergem, brings decades of expertise to every project. Jon apprenticed for 10 years with Master Luthier and guitar-maker, Luke Wilson, in Northern California to learn the exquisite art of luthiery. Now with a total of 20 years experience, he has built a new workshop behind his home in the heart of Kansas City, Kansas. Jon is dedicated to preserving the beauty and functionality of your cherished instruments. Jon understands the importance of each instrument's unique story, and he strives to ensure that the music never stops. Jon is happy to serve musicians of all levels, from beginners and hobbyists to experts and professionals, he welcomes all players into the shop. A well maintained instrument is essential to a players success. Jon is dedicated to bringing life back to your instruments so musicians can connect to the music and reach their full potential.
